Buikslotermeerplein Station is currently under construction in Amsterdam-Noord. This station will be located aboveground in the central reserve of Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg where that road crosses IJdoornlaan. The platform will have two entrances: one in the centre and one on the north side. A ride from Central Station to Buikslotermeerplein Station will take just a couple of minutes. Some 22,500 passengers will be taking the metro to and from this station every day. Promenade to a sports hall and shopping centre The municipal district Amsterdam-Noord is taking advantage of the construction of the new metro line to renew the whole area. A promenade will soon join this station with a variety of sport and recreational facilities and the refurbished ‘Boven 't IJ’ shopping centre. There are also plans for a cultural centre, a cinema, educational facilities and increased office space.
Developments in construction of Buikslotermeerplein Station The current building activities in connection with this station consist primarily of pouring concrete for the piers of the viaduct/station. Demolition of the tunnel between Buiksloterdijk and Waddendijk The bicycle and pedestrian tunnel between Buiksloterdijk and Waddendijk has been closed since 28 August 2006 for the demolition of the tunnel and the replacement of the culvert (for an underground watercourse) beneath it. The demolition of the tunnel and the culvert is now finished, and the contractor already began building a new culvert in mid-January 2007. As soon as that is finished, a new viaduct will be built. These building activities will take place in two phases: first the western part of the tunnel (until mid-2007) and afterwards the eastern part (starting in mid-2007). Cyclists and pedestrians will be re-routed via Nieuwe Purmerweg and via Volewijkspark. Further on in Amsterdam-Noord In the cofferdam along the Noordhollands Kanaal, some 1600 concrete piles are being driven for the foundation of the metro tunnel. The contractor is working from north to south and is currently still north of the Wagenaarbrug.
